The door and window seal industry is sure to see a new spring.
The history of doors and windows is also the history of sealing strips. The upgrading of doors and windows has also driven the upgrading of sealing strips. However, the Chinese production concept is worth pondering - blindly reducing costs and engaging in low-price competition. There are many major brands in the door and window fittings industry, such as Jianlang, Yangshi, Nuote, and Sigiliya... but there are few major brands of sealing strips. This is not a technical problem, but a problem of production philosophy. We hope that the leaders in the sealing strip industry will stick to doing their own thing, not be dragged down by the low prices of small factories, and be responsible sealing strip manufacturers for the future of China's doors and windows, and for their own sake. To become a well-deserved major brand in the door and window fittings industry.
I. The Era of Natural Rubber Sealing Strips
In the mid-1990s, steel doors and windows, ordinary aluminum alloy doors and windows, and ordinary wooden windows almost occupied all of China's door and window market share. At that time, it was the era of natural rubber sealing strips. The Chinese-style small workshop production model, the Chinese-style cost reduction, coupled with the shortcomings of natural rubber itself, its inability to withstand aging in the natural environment, cracking, hardening, and breaking within months, finally gradually faded out of the market as steel doors and windows were banned by the state...
II. PVC Polyvinyl Chloride Sealing Strips
In the late 1990s, plastic steel windows were synonymous with high-end doors and windows. There was once a story that a provincial official in Hebei Province personally queued for half a month at a plastic steel profile factory to buy profiles. The construction door and window industry ushered in the plastic steel era, and the country began to promote the use of PVC sealing strips. PVC sealing strips, with their non-cracking and easy welding properties, became the darling of plastic steel window sealing strips. However, after only 2-3 years, problems arose. The leaching of PVC plasticizers, a world-wide industry problem, became apparent in PVC sealing strips. Due to the leaching of plasticizers, the adhesive strips contaminated the profiles, causing problems such as shrinkage, broken cross-section shrinkage, and poor sealing. The Chinese-style small workshop processing, Chinese-style cost reduction, and Chinese-style low-price competition led to the use of inferior plasticizers and recycled PVC, further exacerbating the problems in the entire sealing strip industry, and thus the end of PVC sealing strips began to appear.
III. EPDM Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Sealing Strips
In the early 2000s, the state issued a document restricting the use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sealing strips and promoting the use of EPDM ethylene propylene diene monomer sealing strips and MVQ silicone rubber sealing strips. EPDM, a high-grade sealing strip used in automobiles and trains, was finally adopted by the construction industry. However, its widespread use in the door and window industry actually began after 2002. At that time, doors and windows gradually entered the era of broken bridge aluminum alloy, and EPDM, with its superior physical properties and good aging resistance, became synonymous with high-grade sealing strips. In 2011, affected by international factors such as oil prices, the price of ethylene propylene rubber soared, and the winter for EPDM sealing strips arrived. Then came the Chinese wisdom, and recycled rubber began to be widely used. To put it bluntly, the entire sealing strip market was in chaos, and good sealing strips were hard to find. A certain county in China is the base for domestic sealing strips, and about 70% of China's EPDM building sealing strips come from this county. An owner of a company in the same industry once chatted with me, saying, "We are very proud now, 70% of the country's EPDM sealing strips come from here, and we are almost monopolizing the market."
After listening, I was at a loss. There were almost no brands, and it was all low-price competition. They made a little money and were complacent. I felt sad, sad for the industry for making such a good reputation for EPDM so bad, and sad for the future of sealing strips...
IV. MVQ Silicone Rubber Sealing Strips
It is not entirely accurate to say that MVQ silicone rubber sealing strips are the newest sealing strip material. Silicone rubber has also been around in China for decades. In previous years, it was indeed a leader among rubbers, very delicate. In recent years, the cost has gradually decreased, and it has gradually been used in building sealing. The advantages of silicone rubber over ethylene propylene rubber for sealing are that it has better compression deformation performance, so the sealing performance is better, and from the time-temperature equivalence principle, silicone rubber can withstand temperatures up to 300℃, while ethylene propylene rubber can only withstand 180℃ at most. Under the same temperature conditions, the lifespan of silicone rubber is twice that of ethylene propylene rubber, and its service life is longer. Moreover, it has excellent physiological inertness, is non-toxic and odorless, and silicone rubber also has excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, dielectric properties, ozone resistance, and atmospheric aging resistance. The outstanding performance of silicone rubber is its wide operating temperature range, which can be used for a long time at temperatures from -60℃ (or lower) to +250℃ (or higher). Therefore, silicone rubber is the ideal choice for building sealing in the current era.
In short, times are constantly progressing, and the Chinese sealing strip industry should create brands, bid farewell to the era of low-price competition, and standardize management. I believe that with the development of Chinese sealing strips, the Chinese sealing strip industry will surely usher in a new spring.
